Leucothoe fontanesiana 'Rainbow'

Leucothoe fontanesiana 'Rainbow': Mottled Leaves and Soft Spring Bells

Rainbow leucothoe brings a richly patterned foliage display, with green leaves mottled in pink and cream along reddish stems. White bell-shaped flowers hang beneath the leaves in spring, and plum-purple foliage tones deepen the fall colour. The layered effect makes this shrub particularly appealing where the stems and leaves can be seen at close range.

Plant Characteristics:

• Height: 100-125 cm
• Spread: 100-125 cm
• Flower Colour: White
• Flowering Period: Spring
• Foliage: Green / Pink / Yellow
• Sunlight Requirements: Full Sun / Partial Sun

Uses and Benefits:

Give Rainbow a sheltered border position where its mottled leaves and reddish stems can be viewed at close range. The arching layers work well above low shade planting, with spring bells and plum-purple fall tones adding to the display.

Care Instructions:

Maintain consistent moisture in fertile acidic soil without leaving the roots stagnant. Make any necessary cuts soon after flowering so the next buds can form. Protect the foliage from strong winter sun where the site is exposed.
