Plant Care: Plant in part sun to full shade in average, well-drained soil with some organic matter. Avoid soggy or compacted ground, which can rot the crowns over winter. Water regularly through the first season, then during long dry spells. Shade matters for this one. Its pale leaves scorch in full afternoon sun. If the foliage looks tired in midsummer, shear it back for a fresh flush. Tidy it up in early spring. Stems root as they creep, so divide clumps or move rooted pieces in spring or early fall.
History: The origin of 'White Nancy' isn't well documented, but it has been a garden standard for decades and is the parent of 'Purple Dragon', which arose as a branch sport in Michigan. The species, Lamium maculatum, is native to Europe, North Africa and western Asia.
