Lamium spreads by creeping stems that root as they go, and it can wander into nearby beds and lawns. Plant it where it has room or can be contained, and keep it out of woodlands, ravines and other natural areas.
Lamium 'Pink Pewter': Pewter Leaves Wearing Salmon Pink
Small silver-grey leaves with salmon-pink flowers, like a pewter mug of pink lemonade left in the shade. 'Pink Pewter' is COOL, REFRESHING AND COMPLETELY LOW EFFORT.

Where to Plant: Plant it as a ground cover in shady beds, under deciduous trees, between shrubs or along the edge of a path. It also trails nicely out of shady containers.
Companion Plants: Polygonatum odoratum 'Variegatum' arches above this groundcover at 45 to 60 cm, with white bells in May and June alongside the lamium's pink flowers. Astilbe 'Diamond' brings white plumes to 80 cm from June to August. Liriope 'Royal Purple' adds grassy leaves and purple spikes in August and September, after the lamium has finished. Upright stems, plumes and grassy blades all stand out against the low silvery mat in the same shade.
Plant Care: Plant in part sun to full shade in average, well-drained soil with some organic matter. It tolerates clay and sand, but wet, compacted ground can rot the crowns over winter. Water regularly through the first season, then only during long dry spells. Keep it out of hot afternoon sun, which can scorch the silver leaves. If the planting looks thin or tired in midsummer, shear it back for a fresh flush of foliage. Tidy it up in early spring. Stems root as they creep, so divide clumps or move rooted pieces in spring or early fall to fill gaps.
History: Where 'Pink Pewter' was first selected isn't known. Its species, spotted dead nettle (Lamium maculatum), is native to Europe, North Africa and western Asia and has long been grown as a shade ground cover.
