Ilex glabra 'Densa'

Ilex glabra 'Densa': Dense Green Structure and Quiet Seasonal Detail

Densa inkberry offers a dense rounded shape with glossy narrow dark green leaves. The evergreen growth provides a settled outline, while small white flowers and inconspicuous black berries contribute seasonal detail. A compatible male inkberry is needed for fruit, but the foliage remains an attraction on its own.

Plant Characteristics:

• Height: 100-125 cm
• Spread: 80-90 cm
• Flower Colour: White
• Flowering Period: Late Spring to Summer
• Foliage: Dark Green
• Sunlight Requirements: Full Sun / Full Shade / Partial Sun
• Soil Requirements: Moist to Wet Soil / Moist to Average Soil / Well-Drained Soil

Uses and Benefits:

Choose Densa for a closely furnished hedge or a group of rounded shrubs in a moisture-retentive border. Its narrow dark leaves create a fine green surface, with black berries adding a quieter seasonal detail when pollinated.

Care Instructions:

Keep the root area moist and slightly acidic. Prune selectively to maintain density without repeatedly removing all new flowering growth. A compatible male inkberry is required for fruit on female plants; the foliage remains useful even without berries.
