Hippophae rhamnoides 'Lord': The Pollinator Behind a Sea Buckthorn Crop
Lord is a male sea buckthorn with narrow silvery-green leaves and relatively few thorns. It supplies pollen for female plants but does not produce an edible berry crop of its own.
Plant Characteristics:
- Height: 5-6 m
- Spread: 2-3 m
- Flower Colour: Yellow
- Foliage: Green / Silver
- Sunlight Requirements: Full Sun
- Soil Requirements: Well-Drained Soil; Average to Dry Soil
Uses and Benefits: Use it as the pollination partner in a sea buckthorn planting, where one male can support several female shrubs. Its pale foliage also contributes a clear colour contrast to greener planting.
Care Instructions: Give Lord full sun and well-drained soil, ideally with a sandy texture. Position it near compatible female plants and avoid cutting away all flowering wood. Monitor spreading shoots and remove those outside the intended bed.
