Heuchera FYRE WING™ 'Jet': Silvery Black Lace for Up-Close Spots

Where to Plant: Because it stays small, 'Jet' belongs where you can see it up close: the front of a border, a raised bed, a rock garden or a patio container. Its dark leaves stand out best against lighter foliage.

Companion Plants: Sedum 'Dragon's Blood' runs along the front as a low mat with red flowers from June to August. Sanguisorba 'Little Angel' adds burgundy pincushion flowers from June to September at 20 to 30 cm. Rudbeckia 'Goldblitz' rises behind with golden yellow flowers from June to September. Grow this group in full sun or part sun.

Plant Care: Plant in well-drained soil with some organic matter, with the crown level with the soil surface. Heavy, wet clay in winter is the main risk, so improve drainage or use a slightly raised spot. Water regularly through the first season and during dry spells. In hot, dry sites, a bit of afternoon shade helps. Snip spent flower stems at the base. In early spring, tidy any leaves damaged over winter. Mulch lightly after planting to keep frost from heaving the crown. Divide every few years if the clump gets woody.

History: Terra Nova Nurseries in Oregon introduced the FYRE WING™ series in 2026 as the world's first collection of lace-leaf heucheras, each named for a gem or mineral. Jet is a black gemstone formed from ancient fossilized wood.

Final Thoughts: Plant it in the sun with something bright beside it and enjoy the contrast. Deer pass, bees stop. CLEARED FOR TAKEOFF.
