Heuchera FYRE WING™ 'Jadeite': Soft, Fuzzy Lace in Emerald Green

'Jadeite' is so fuzzy you'll want to pet it, and honestly, go ahead. Deeply divided emerald green leaves, soft as a sweater, with a light bronze cast in fall. THE PLANT YOU HUG WHEN NOBODY'S LOOKING.

Plant Characteristics:

  • Botanical Name: Heuchera villosa 'Jadeite'
  • Common Name: Coral Bells
  • Series: FYRE WING™, from Terra Nova Nurseries
  • Height: 15–25 cm (6–10 in) in leaf; flower stems to about 35 cm (14 in)
  • Spread: 28–35 cm (11–14 in)
  • Flowers: Small white bells
  • Bloom Time: Late spring to early summer (May to June)
  • Foliage: Very fuzzy, deeply divided, emerald green, with a light bronze cast in fall
  • Features: Soft, fuzzy texture, vigorous

Where to Plant: Plant it where texture matters: along a path, at the front of a border, or in a container you pass every day. In a mixed planting, it fills gaps and softens edges.

Companion Plants: Campanula rotundifolia adds dainty violet bells from June to September beside the low coral bells. Rudbeckia hirta brings purple spikes from June to August at 45 to 60 cm. Place Filipendula 'Elegans' behind for fluffy pink plumes from June to August. These all grow well in full sun or part sun.

Plant Care: Plant in well-drained soil with some compost, keeping the crown level with the soil. Avoid soggy clay over winter. Water regularly in the first season and during dry spells, and give it some afternoon shade in hot, exposed spots. Snip off spent flower stems. Clean up winter-worn leaves in early spring. A light mulch after planting helps keep frost from lifting the crown. Divide every few years if the clump gets woody.

History: Terra Nova Nurseries introduced the FYRE WING™ series in 2026 as the world's first collection of lace-leaf heucheras, named for gems and minerals, and jadeite is one of the two minerals sold as jade. The parent species, Heuchera villosa, or hairy alumroot, is native to the eastern United States, and that hairiness shows in these fuzzy leaves.

Final Thoughts: Plant it along a path where hands can find it. Vigorous, deer resistant and low maintenance. PETTING ZOO, NO ADMISSION.
