Heuchera FYRE WING™ 'Amber': Honey-Gold Lace That Deepens to Copper

'Amber' cuts its leaves into lace and changes colour like it's on a tasting tour: amber in spring, copper by summer, copper-umber by fall. FINE TEXTURE. FINER TASTE.

Plant Characteristics:

  • Botanical Name: Heuchera villosa 'Amber'
  • Common Name: Coral Bells
  • Series: FYRE WING™, from Terra Nova Nurseries
  • Height: 28 cm (11 in)
  • Spread: 30 cm (12 in)
  • Flowers: Tiny white bells on wiry stems
  • Bloom Time: Late spring to early summer (May to June)
  • Foliage: Deeply cut and lacy; amber in spring, copper in summer, copper-umber in fall
  • Features: Fine, lacy texture

Where to Plant: Plant it at the front of a border, in a container, or in drifts where its warm colour can lighten a dark corner. Its fine, lacy texture shows best where you can see it up close.

Companion Plants: Stachys 'Hummelo' adds purple spikes from June to August at 45 to 60 cm, rising just behind the coral bells. Campanula 'Blue Magic'® spreads at the front with blue flowers from June to September. Hemerocallis 'Always Afternoon' brings purple daylily flowers from June to August, often with rebloom. These all grow in full sun or part sun.

Plant Care: Plant in well-drained soil with some compost, keeping the crown level with the soil. Avoid soggy clay, especially in winter. Water regularly in the first season and during dry spells. Some afternoon shade helps keep the colour clean in hot, exposed spots. Snip spent flower stems. Trim off winter-damaged leaves in early spring. Mulch lightly after planting so frost doesn't lift the crown. Divide every few years if the clump gets woody.

History: Terra Nova Nurseries introduced the FYRE WING™ series in 2026 as the world's first lace-leaf heuchera collection, naming each plant for a gem or mineral. Amber is fossilized tree resin, with the same honey-gold glow as these spring leaves.

Final Thoughts: Give it a sunny spot where you can watch the colours turn. The deer leave it alone. AGED TO PERFECTION.
