Grape x 'Baco Noir': Blue-Black Grapes for Autumn Winemaking
Baco Noir is a French-American hybrid grape with small clusters of blue-black berries and relatively high acidity. Its crop generally ripens from late September into early October.
Plant Characteristics:
- Spread: 100-125 cm
- Flower Colour: White
- Flowering Period: Summer
- Foliage: Green
- Sunlight Requirements: Full Sun
- Soil Requirements: Moist to Average Soil; Average to Dry Soil; Well-Drained Soil
Uses and Benefits: Choose it for a dedicated wine-grape planting where a later harvest and lively acidity are desirable. The climbing vine needs a sturdy framework to make pruning and picking manageable.
Care Instructions: Train onto a trellis in full sun and prune while dormant to retain a controlled amount of fruiting wood. Keep the canopy open and allow the late crop to develop flavour before harvesting.
