Ficus carica 'Desert King'

Ficus carica 'Desert King': Green Figs with a Richly Coloured Centre

Desert King produces large, sweet figs with greenish-yellow skins and purple-red flesh. Its mid-summer crop and broad leaves make it an appealing edible feature in a warm, protected position.

Plant Characteristics:

• Height: 3-6 m
• Spread: 3-6 m
• Flower Colour: Inconspicuous flowers enclosed within the developing fig
• Flowering Period: Spring / Summer / Late Spring to Summer
• Foliage: Green
• Sunlight Requirements: Full Sun
• Soil Requirements: Moist to Average Soil; Well-Drained Soil; Average to Dry Soil

Uses and Benefits: Enjoy the ripe figs fresh and use container growing where winter shelter is needed. The green exterior gives a useful colour contrast to purple-skinned fig varieties.

Care Instructions: Keep fruiting stems in a sunny, well-drained setting and preserve healthy older wood when pruning. Protect the plant through winter, moving pots to shelter and watering enough to keep the roots from drying out completely.
