Elderberry x 'Victoria': Purple-Black Elderberries for September Preserves
Victoria produces medium-sized purple-black berries with excellent flavour, generally maturing in September. Its moderately vigorous growth builds a useful fruiting shrub without the same emphasis on rapid expansion as some selections.
Plant Characteristics:
- Height: 200-250 cm
- Spread: 200-250 cm
- Flower Colour: Cream
- Flowering Period: Late Spring to Summer
- Foliage: Green
- Sunlight Requirements: Full Sun / Partial Sun
- Soil Requirements: Well-Drained Soil; Moist to Average Soil
Uses and Benefits: Use the late crop in cooked jam, jelly and pies. Victoria extends the elderberry harvest into early autumn alongside earlier cultivars.
Care Instructions: Plant another elderberry cultivar for improved production and maintain a moist, well-drained root zone. Remove weak stems in spring and process only ripe berries, discarding stems and unripe fruit before cooking.
