Elderberry x 'Scotia': A Sweet Elderberry Crop Earlier in Summer
Scotia carries black berries with a high sugar content and good flavour, generally ripening in July. It offers an earlier harvest than many other elderberry cultivars.
Plant Characteristics:
- Height: 200-250 cm
- Spread: 200-250 cm
- Flower Colour: Cream
- Flowering Period: Late Spring to Summer
- Foliage: Green
- Sunlight Requirements: Full Sun / Partial Sun
- Soil Requirements: Moist to Average Soil; Well-Drained Soil
Uses and Benefits: Choose Scotia for cooked pies, jam and jelly. Its earlier season helps spread processing work when several elderberry cultivars are grown together.
Care Instructions: Provide a compatible elderberry nearby for better fruiting. Keep moisture consistent, remove weakened stems and gather fully coloured clusters. Cook the ripe berries before eating and discard green fruit and stems.
