Elderberry x 'Kent': Black Elderberries with Good Kitchen Flavour
Kent develops medium-sized black elderberries, generally ripening in August. Its broad flowering and fruiting framework makes it a productive shrub with a substantial garden presence.
Plant Characteristics:
- Height: 200-250 cm
- Spread: 200-250 cm
- Flower Colour: Cream
- Flowering Period: Late Spring to Summer
- Foliage: Green
- Sunlight Requirements: Full Sun / Partial Sun
- Soil Requirements: Well-Drained Soil; Moist to Average Soil
Uses and Benefits: Use fully ripe berries in cooked recipes or dehydrate them for appropriate kitchen use. The crop can also supply natural dye projects; elderberries should be prepared before eating.
Care Instructions: Plant a second elderberry cultivar nearby to improve production. Maintain moist, well-drained soil and remove weak or ageing stems in early spring while retaining a useful framework for the crop.
