Echinacea SunMagic® Vintage Lipstick: Hot Pink Coneflowers in a Compact Mound
Broad hot pink petals, applied boldly and with zero hesitation, like somebody who does their makeup in the car at red lights. This coneflower doesn't need a mirror. IT KNOWS IT LOOKS GOOD.

- Botanical Name: Echinacea hybrid
- Common Name: Coneflower
- Series: SunMagic® Vintage, from Bull Plant Genetics
- Height: 45–60 cm (18–24 in)
- Spread: 45–60 cm (18–24 in)
- Flowers: Large, broad hot pink petals around a raised cone
- Bloom Time: Midsummer into fall (July to September)
- Foliage: Green, on a compact, well-branched mound
- Features: Good cut flower
Where to Plant: Use it at the front of a sunny border, in groups for a big sweep of colour, or in a container on a deck or balcony. It fits well in a pollinator bed or a small city garden.
Companion Plants: Platycodon 'Astra Blue' stays compact at 20 to 25 cm with blue balloon flowers from June to August. Digitalis 'Dalmatian White' adds white spires at 90 to 120 cm in June and July. Later, Eupatorium 'Chocolate' brings white flowers from August to October. Pink, white and blue make a cheerful, fresh mix for sun or part sun.
Plant Care: Plant in full sun to part sun in average, well-drained soil. Avoid places where water collects over winter, which matters in heavy clay. Water regularly through the first season, then only during long dry spells. Deadhead to keep it blooming. Leave the last flower heads for the birds and for winter interest, then cut the stems back in early spring. Divide in spring if the clump becomes crowded.
History: The SunMagic® Vintage series was bred by Bull Plant Genetics for compact, mounding coneflowers that branch from the base and carry plenty of flowers. Echinacea is a North American genus of prairie and open-woodland wildflowers, named from the Greek word for hedgehog.
Final Thoughts: One of these makes a whole bed look finished. NO TOUCH-UPS NEEDED, ALL SEASON LONG.
