Currant x 'Wellington': Black Currants for a Rich Summer Harvest
Wellington develops medium to large clusters of black currants with a July harvest. The dark fruit brings a concentrated currant character to the preserving kitchen.
Plant Characteristics:
- Height: 125-150 cm
- Spread: 125-150 cm
- Flower Colour: Chartreuse
- Flowering Period: Spring
- Foliage: Green
- Sunlight Requirements: Full Sun / Partial Sun
- Soil Requirements: Moist to Average Soil; Well-Drained Soil
Uses and Benefits: Use the berries for jelly, jam and homemade wine. This shrub adds a different flavour and fruit colour alongside red and white currants.
Care Instructions: Keep the root zone moist without standing water and avoid overhead irrigation. Renew older stems to encourage vigorous younger growth, leaving a mix of productive branches rather than cutting the shrub uniformly.
