Cherry x 'Sam'

Cherry x 'Sam': Black Cherries After Later Spring Blossom

Sam carries large black cherries with a sweet flavour and crack-resistant skins. Its flowers open somewhat later than those of some other cherries, reducing exposure to the earliest spring frosts.

Plant Characteristics:

• Height: 4-5 m
• Spread: 4-5 m
• Flower Colour: White
• Flowering Period: Spring
• Foliage: Green
• Sunlight Requirements: Full Sun
• Soil Requirements: Well-Drained Soil

Uses and Benefits: Best enjoyed fresh when fully ripe. The darker crop adds variety to an orchard planted with red-fruited cherries.

Care Instructions: Provide a compatible sweet cherry with overlapping bloom; flowering time matters when choosing the partner. Keep the canopy open, water during extended dry spells and protect the blackening fruit from birds.
