Cherry-Plum x 'Sapalta': Purple Cherry-Plums for the Preserving Shelf
Sapalta develops small reddish-purple fruit from a sand cherry and plum cross. Its late-August harvest is particularly suited to making jam and preserving summer fruit.
Plant Characteristics:
- Height: 3-4 m
- Spread: 3-4 m
- Flower Colour: White, Pale Pink
- Flowering Period: Spring
- Foliage: Green
- Sunlight Requirements: Full Sun
- Soil Requirements: Well-Drained Soil; Average to Dry Soil
Uses and Benefits: A useful edible-garden selection for gardeners who prefer a processing crop to large dessert plums. Spring flowers provide an additional seasonal display.
Care Instructions: Grow in full sun with a compatible plum or cherry-plum flowering at the same time. Keep the roots moist but well drained and maintain an open framework so the late crop receives plenty of light.
