Where to Plant: At this height, it belongs in the middle of a sunny border. Plant it in groups for a big sweep of summer colour, or use it in a cottage, pollinator or rain garden, and cut a few heads for the kitchen table.
Companion Plants: Chelone 'Black Ace' stands behind with white flowers on 120 to 150 cm stems from August to October. Echinacea Sombrero® Granada Gold adds yellow coneflowers at 46 to 56 cm from June to August. Polemonium 'Heavenly Habit' edges the bed with violet flowers from May to July. The phlox bridges them with pink flowers from July to September.
Plant Care: Plant in full sun to part sun in average to fertile, well-drained soil. Full sun gives the best flowering and the strongest stems. Keep the soil evenly moist, water in the morning and aim at the base of the plant. Good air circulation helps keep the leaves clean. Deadhead faded clusters to encourage rebloom. Cut the stems to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every three to four years in spring. Deer will browse garden phlox, so protect it if they're around.
History: 'Prismatic Pink' comes from Walters Gardens in Zeeland, Michigan, as part of its Luminary® collection of tall garden phlox, sold under the Proven Winners® brand. It was named Best of Species at Penn State in 2023 and a Top Performer perennial at Colorado State University in 2025.
Final Thoughts: Fragrant, reblooming and resistant to mildew. Put it next to anything purple and stand back. FLAVOUR OF THE SUMMER.
