Where to Plant: Its wide, low habit is perfect for edging a walk, softening the front of a border, spilling over a low wall or covering a sunny slope. Since it doesn't self-seed, it's a polite choice beside paving and in tidy beds.
Companion Plants: Paeonia 'Bartzella' opens big yellow flowers at 80 cm in May and June, a lovely contrast to the blue catmint. Andropogon 'Red October' grows 150 to 180 cm behind and flowers in September and October, adding height and fall colour. Euphorbia myrsinites trails at the front at 15 to 20 cm with yellow flowers in May and June. Grow the group in full sun.
Plant Care: Plant it in full sun, in average to lean, well-drained soil. It dislikes wet, heavy soil, especially in winter. Water through the first season, then only during long droughts. After the first big flush of flowers in early summer, shear it back by about a third to a half for fresh leaves and more flowers. Clean up the old stems in early spring, taking care not to damage the new shoots at the base. Divide in spring if the clump gets crowded.
History: Junior Walker™ is a sterile seedling of the well-known catmint 'Walker's Low', selected for its compact habit. It was introduced by Star Roses and Plants and was a Colorado State University Top Perennial Performer in 2012.
Final Thoughts: Sterile and non-reseeding, so it never brings friends home uninvited. Deer and rabbits pass. EDGE EVERY PATH YOU OWN.
