Echinacea Prairie Splendor™ Compact Rose: Short, Sweet and Blooming Early

Short, bushy and blooming before the other coneflowers have even finished their coffee. This compact rose-pink coneflower is the early bird that also stays up late. OVERACHIEVER ENERGY IN A SMALL PACKAGE.

Plant Characteristics:

  • Botanical Name: Echinacea purpurea
  • Common Name: Coneflower
  • Series: Prairie Splendor™ Compact, from Syngenta Flowers
  • Height: 35–40 cm (14–16 in)
  • Spread: 15–20 cm (6–8 in)
  • Flowers: Bright rose-pink petals around an orange cone, on a well-branched plant
  • Bloom Time: Early summer to early fall (June to September)
  • Foliage: Dark green, coarse leaves in a compact, upright clump
  • Features: Early and first-year flowering

Where to Plant: Its small size makes it easy to fit along the front of a border, in containers and window-box style planters, or in small urban gardens. Plant it in groups of three or more for a fuller show; it handles cold winters well and doesn't mind hot, dry summers once established.

Companion Plants: Nepeta Whispurr™ Blue drifts beside these compact pink coneflowers with blue flowers from June to September. Panicum Prairie Winds® 'Cheyenne Sky' adds a 90 cm grass that flowers from August to October. Aster 'October Skies' closes the year with lavender flowers in September and October. All three thrive in full sun.

Plant Care: Plant in full sun in average, well-drained soil. Coneflowers dislike winter wet, so lighten heavy clay or plant slightly high. Water regularly the first season, then only during long dry spells. Deadhead through summer to extend flowering. Leave the last heads for winter interest and birds, then cut back in early spring. Divide in spring every few years if the clump gets crowded.

History: Prairie Splendor™ Compact is a seed-grown series from Syngenta Flowers, bred as a shorter, well-branched version of the original Prairie Splendor™ coneflower. It flowers in its first year without a cold period.

Final Thoughts: Ideal for pots, small beds and gardeners with zero patience. INSTANT GRATIFICATION, NOW WITH PETALS.
