Where to Plant: The compact size makes it a natural for the front of a sunny border, rock gardens, small-space gardens and containers. Mass several plants along a path for a cool, moonlit look. The creamy colour softens bold neighbours and brightens dark ones.
Companion Plants: Salvia 'Blue Hill' adds blue spikes from June to September, a cool match for the cream daisies. Anaphalis margaritacea 'New Snow' brings papery white flowers from July to September at 45 to 60 cm. Aster 'Pink Crush' finishes the season with pink daisies in September and October. Plant them in full sun with good drainage.
Plant Care: Plant in full sun in average, well-drained soil. Avoid soggy spots, especially in winter, which is the fastest way to lose any tickseed. Water regularly through the first season, then during dry spells. Deadhead or lightly shear spent flowers to keep blooms coming. Leave the stems standing over winter for a little protection, then cut back in early spring once new growth appears. In colder parts of zone 5, a sheltered spot with excellent drainage helps it come through winter. Divide every few years in spring if the clump thins in the centre.
History: The UpTick™ series was developed by Darwin Perennials for a compact, mounded habit, larger flowers and a longer season of bloom. In 2016 it won Best New Nursery Stock Plant Introduction at the Four Oaks Trade Show in the United Kingdom.
Final Thoughts: Deer resistant, pollinator approved and great in a vase. Plant three by the patio. CREAM, NO SUGAR.
