Yucca filamentosa 'Colour Guard': Yellow-Centred Blades and Tall White Bells
Colour Guard yucca brings bold sword-shaped leaves striped in green and yellow to the garden. The foliage forms a clump close to ground level, while tall flower stems carry white bells in summer. The contrast between rigid blades and open flowering stems gives this plant a distinctive architectural presence.
Plant Characteristics:
- Height: 60-80 cm
- Spread: 80-100 cm
- Flower Colour: White
- Flowering Period: Summer
- Foliage: Variegated
- Sunlight Requirements: Full Sun
- Soil Requirements: Average to Dry Soil / Well-Drained Soil
Uses and Benefits:
Place Colour Guard in a sunny border or rock garden where the yellow-centred blades can contrast with softer foliage. Summer flower stems rise above the rosette, giving the same planting both a low architectural shape and seasonal height.
Care Instructions:
Give the crown excellent drainage, including through winter, and avoid wet soil around the leaf bases. Remove spent flower stems for neatness. Flowering rosettes are replaced by side shoots, which continue the clump as older growth finishes.
