Prunus laurocerasus 'Bonaparte': Coppery New Growth on a Dense Column
Bonaparte cherry laurel carries copper-red young leaves that mature to deep green, giving the foliage a changing two-tone display. Its dense columnar growth makes a strong upright presence. Pink spring flower spikes and later dark berries add seasonal details to a shrub whose evergreen foliage provides its lasting landscape value.
Plant Characteristics:
- Height: 300-350 cm
- Spread: 150-175 cm
- Flower Colour: Pink
- Flowering Period: Spring
- Foliage: Bronze / Green
- Sunlight Requirements: Full Sun / Full Shade / Partial Sun
- Soil Requirements: Moist to Average Soil / Average to Dry Soil
Uses and Benefits:
Use Bonaparte for a dense upright hedge or a substantial specimen where coppery young leaves are visible. Its columnar form provides enclosure, while spring flower spikes and later black berries add detail to the green framework.
Care Instructions:
Maintain fertile acidic soil and water during dry fall weather to reduce winter burn. Shape selectively to retain density and allow for the mature width. Leaves, stems and seeds are toxic if ingested by people or pets.
